Joyce Oaks is the owner and founder of Joyce Oaks Wealth Management Group. Joyce grew up in Cedar Rapids. After earning her BA from Drake University, she entered the financial industry in 2004. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) professional and has also obtained her AAMS™ (Accredited Asset Management Specialist™), ADPA™ (Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor™), and CLTC® (Certified Long-Term Care) designations. She is a notary public and a member of the Financial Planning Association.
Joyce is our primary wealth advisor and conducts all client meetings. She’s terrible at delegating because she loves all parts of her job. The best part for her is the client relationships. She loves getting to know different types of people all over the country and considers it a great honor to become a friend and advisor in her clients’ lives.
Outside of work, Joyce believes strongly in community service and is currently the board secretary of the Highland Neighborhood Association, after serving 15 years as president. She is also vice president of the board of directors for Tri-County Head Start. Joyce supports many other local organizations, including Love INC, Stone Soul Picnic/Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Try Pie, House of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Cedar Bend Humane Society, Hospitality House, Grout Museum District, Main Street Waterloo, and Iowa Irish Fest.
Joyce is married to Steve, better known as “Mr. Oaks,” a longtime social studies teacher at Waterloo East High School. Joyce and Steve live in the Highland Historic District in Waterloo and are active members of Heartland Vineyard Church. They have three daughters, a son-in-law, one absolutely perfect granddaughter, and another one on the way! Joyce is an animal lover and enjoys spending time with her two rescue dogs, Maria and Memo. Her first best furry friend, Plinko, passed away in 2025.
Joyce’s favorite thing to do is go places, anywhere and everywhere! She has traveled to 21 countries and hopes to add many more to the list. She also enjoys yoga, wine, news, shopping, and reading.
Joyce has been honored both for her personal and professional achievements, receiving the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier 20 Under 40 Award in 2019, as well as being named to the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list (2022-2025), Forbes Best-in-State Women Wealth Advisors list (2023-2025), and Forbes Top Women Wealth Advisors list (2020).
